Production

We're committed to making the best quality games possible, while keeping costs down to make the games affordable for the customers, and profitable for you. This page attempts to answer all your questions about what you can expect regarding production of your games with The Game Crafter.

Game Card Production

Our cards look like regular playing cards. They have rounded corners and are printed in full glorious color on both sides. The cards are printed on a heavy clay coated card stock, which gives them a nice texture, and good heft.

Our digital fusers burn dry toner onto the paper, rather than spreading ink like a traditional offset printing press. However, because it's toner rather than ink, wide fields of a fixed color will not be quite as perfect as traditional printing. This problem is easily avoided by using textures or gradients for the backgrounds of your cards.

In Print On Demand (POD), the registration (how front and back line up with each other, and how printing lines up with cutting) is not quite as good as traditional printers. With each passing day we're able to make improvements in this, and eventually POD will be just as accurate as a traditional printer. In the meantime, be sure to give yourself enough room from the edge of the card so that nothing important gets cut off. Also, using backgrounds that bleed off the edge, instead of borders, will make the registration errors less noticeable.

Please note that there may be up to a 0.9 millimeter offset between front side and back side printing registration, and up to a 0.2 millimeter size difference in card cutting registration. While these differences are absolutely tiny, they may upset some people. We're working diligently to eliminate these offset tolerances and to make our games as perfect as possible.

Game Board Production

Game boards are printed on the same heavy clay-coated stock that our cards are printed on. They are again printed full-color front and back, and are of extremely high quality. All of the same suggestions and caveats that apply for cards apply for game boards as well.

Do boards fold?

No. We ship them flat in the box.

Do you offer thicker chip core boards?

No. Currently we only offer our standard cardstock boards?

Game Box Production

The game box is a white Indestructo box, which can handle up to 200lbs of force applied to it. It has some of our branding on it, and it will also have a black and white label applied to it with the game's cover art. This box is suitable both for shipping and for game storage, which is both practical and cost effective to keep the manufacturing costs down so you can make a profit. This box is also great for the environment.

The box shown below is our 4x3x3 mailer. We have many different sizes of boxes, and the best one that fits the game is chosen at packaging time by our fulfillment center.

Do you offer die-cut tuck boxes?

No. We only offer our Indestructo boxes at this time.

Documents

You may print documents, usually rules, with your game. These will be printed on regular 8.5"x11" paper, double sided. Documents are currently black and white only. The documents are unbound and folded to fit the shipping box.

Changes

One of the biggest advantages you get in producing games via Print On Demand is that you can make changes after you publish the game. If you find errors in the printed materials (spelling, rule omissions, poor descriptions) or you decide to make rule changes, you can quickly and easily put out a second or third edition with those corrections.

We also recommend purchasing a copy of your game for yourself before publishing it live to our shop. This way you can look at all of the components and make sure everything looks how you expected it to look before unveiling it to your fans.

How long will it take to make my game?

Our production queue allows us to manufacture most games within 1-5 days. Customers located in the United States typically receive their orders within 7-10 days.

International customers typically recieve their orders within 15-20 days. Orders are shipped via USPS Priority Mail® International and are not insured against damage or loss. Therefore, if this occurs it is the responsibility of the customer and not TGC.

Note: Shipping times can vary based on customer location and how busy the United States Postal Service is. (Delays can occur during high volume periods like holiday seasons.)
