Box of Bits

Tabletop materials for learning binary numbers

Requirements

<30
1-2
12+

Description

This box includes 64 reversible 2" square tiles that can be flipped to either a black (zero) side or a white (one) side. This box also includes rectangular tiles labeled with the powers of 2 (between 1 and 128) to help demonstrate place values in the binary number system.

Tiles can be placed in rows to practice counting, converting numbers, or in a grid to demonstrate how computers convert bitmap images to and from numbers.

These tiles work well with many of the activities in the CS Unplugged curriculum (e.g. Error Detection | Computer Science Unplugged [csunplugged.org]).

  • This game contains a premium upgrade where the printed components will be embossed with a linen texture.
