A Reproduction of the rare, vintage card game based on the books of Florence K. Upton
Long unavailable and much sought-after by collectors of Victoriana, Children's Books and Collectibles, THE PICTORIAL GAME OF GOLLIWOGG is a faithful reproduction of the vintage "Round Game" originally published by London's Thos. De La Rue & Co.
Featuring charming vintage illustrations derived from the classic children's books by Florence K. Upton, and starring one of the most notorious characters of children's literature, THE PICTORIAL GAME OF GOLLIWOGG is a unique and historical deck that has been unavailable for over a hundred years, now restored and returned to print by Duck Soup Productions as a companion to their original "Golliwogg Oracle" deck.
The game itself is a fun "matching game," similar to Old Maid, in which players seek to create complete sets of cards before their opponent can do the same.
CONTENTS: 48 Colorful Victorian cards, plus the original 4-page instruction booklet.
WARNING: Please note that this is an historical deck dating back to the late 19th Century. Racial stereotyping abounds. Our attitude is 1) that the past cannot be changed (and should not be suppressed) in order to satisfy the needs of the present, and 2) Great art is great art whether or not it contains words or images that some may find offensive. What was, was: Florence Upton's Golliwogg books depicted the adventures of a group of children's dolls. These dolls did exist in the nurseries of the time. Aside from all that, we just think that Mr. Golliwogg is a pretty neat guy.
