We’re looking for a modern recreation of a dungeon running classic board game. Titles like Dungeon!, Hero Quest, Descent, and Warhammer Quest could all be your inspiration. But you are also welcome to build a card game dungeon crawler like Munchkin, or something completely original. You also don't have to use a fantasy theme. You could just as easily set up your adventurers to be looting the bays of an abandoned space ship, or go Indiana Jones style looting ancient artifacts. Just give us your best door kicking, monster killing, loot grabbing, hack and slash board game.

The judges for this contest will be Royce Thigpen of Gamehole and JT Smith of The Game Crafter.

To qualify, your game must comply with all of the following rules:

  • Your game must simulate a party adventuring through a dungeon to kill monsters and collect loot.
  • Your game must play under 2 hours.
  • You are welcome to use any printables or game pieces available in our shop to create your game.
  • The cost of your game cannot exceed $49.99.
  • A rules document must be downloadable from your game's shop page and also included in the game itself. Can be in booklet or document form.
  • The game must be publish ready (as it relates to our shop, not as it relates to being finished). This means it has a logo, backdrop, shop ad, action shots, description, and cool factors. It must also have all images proofed, and have a box.
  • This must be a new game created for this contest. It cannot have existed on TGC prior to the start of the contest.
  • All artwork must be your own, commissioned by you, licensed to you, or in the public domain.
  • All entries must be submitted through TGC's game editor (by clicking on the "Contests" button) no later than Noon UTC (6am US Central) on August 15, 2017.
  • Contestants may submit multiple entries to this contest. Each entry will be judged separately.

Notes

You retain all rights to your game and are welcome to sell it in our shop during and after the contest, regardless of the outcome of the contest.

The first round of judging is handled by a community voting process. The final two rounds are handled by the judge. See complete details.

What are the Rodneys?

Great question. They are the name for our just launched Gamehole Con game design award.  If you look at any of our annual logos, you will see an armored fellow squaring off against some foe.  At Gamehole Con command central, we have always called that guy, Sir Rodney.  So, that will be the name of our game design awards.

You also get this logo to put on your game as the winner.
