The Graveyard Shift - Update #1

The Graveyard Shift Crowdfund Update #1

WOW! :O 2 weeks into the crowdfund and we already have so many backers and copies pledged! As of this update The Graveyard Shift is so close to the 40+ copies tier (with a 23% discount) being unlocked (making the cost only $11.56 per copy)! I never expected the game to blow up like this with being such a small creator.

I want to thank everyone who has backed and shared the project so far! Every pledge and post helps spread the awareness of this fun little game being sold at a great discount! <3

And if this is you first time seeing the game I hope you are intrigued enough to back it or share it with someone who will enjoy it!

I will try to update a few more time until the crowdfund concludes and during the production and shipping of the game; but with 14 days still to go I am hoping we can get an even bigger discount for everyone soon! So keep on the look out for more emails soon and please share the crowdfund around to anyone that may enjoy it!

The Making Of The Graveyard Shift

As always, I love to include special sneak peaks into my games and write about how the game came about; from concept, to design, and sometimes special things I have planned ;).

Origins:

Originally, The Graveyard Shift was going to be called - Burning The Midnight Oil and be 2 players. The concept was that each player would have their own lantern card that they needed to keep lit, and they would draw/play cards that had spooky horror 'events' (like the ability to regain lost oil tokens) or 'scares' to play against their opponent (to make them lose tokens). There were also 'Moon' cards that, when drawn, would cause a tracker to count down the hours of the night. Whoever lost all their oil tokens first would lose, or, if the moon set, whoever had the most oil tokens at the end would be the winner.

After some thought I did not think the title fit the actions of the game and could be put to better use as a TTRPG I am still working on. {Check out my other free tabletop role playing games on FracturedPawn.itch.io }. I also believed that the game mostly boiled down to the luck of the draw, without any other real player involvement or win condition other than being the last man standing; I thought maybe if I make it one player then I can have them fight the deck instead and still try to stay alive with tokens; and that sparked the dungeon crawling concept it became today!

Here is an image of the starting idea from my notebook:
