Hitstun is a 2 player card fighting game about prediction, hand management and mind games, that plays in under 5 minutes! Hitstun captures the essence of fighting video games while being approachable for players of all skill levels. Combining elements of rock-paper-scissors with hand management gives this game a surprising amount of depth and replay-ability. With fast games, it's great to play multiple times in a row.
Hitstun has both players using identical decks of cards to represent their stamina. When a player is unable to draw or discard cards from the top of their deck, they lose. Each round players pick one card from their hand to play face-down. Players win rounds by properly predicting their opponents, causing them to discard cards from the top of their deck depending on what cards are played. Some cards cause hitstun, preventing that player from playing a card for a round. When your opponent is stunned you can choose to play a card that will automatically win that round or to draw cards to give you more options. Choosing when to combo out your hand or to draw more cards is a key part of the strategy in Hitstun.
Hitstun is easy to learn and easy to teach, with no cumbersome tracking of hit points or number crunching, just combos and mind games. Feel free to check out the print and play in the links below or try the game out on Tabletop Simulator.
