Mindburners: Into the Void is a strategic cyber-occult card drafting and arrangement game for 1-2 players. Loaded up with experimental gear and thrust into the swirling chaos beyond against your will, you must equip and optimize your limited void-tech and outperform your adversary.

Objective

In Mindburners: Into the Void, players are disposable test clones owned by Null Corporation, purveyors of the dark waste's finest void-tech. In the company's annual culling rites, a pair of clones are given the opportunity to earn their freedom by testing Null Corporation's most dangerous experimental technology.

Through drafting, each player will select their choice of five untested void-tech items, and equip them to maximize their usefulness before being mercilessly thrust into the void.

The player with the most victory points by the end of the scoring phase survives (wins) and is granted their freedom. The other perishes in the cold writhing darkness of the horrific unknown...and is also granted their freedom.

Gameplay

Setup (2 player rules)

Shuffle all 18 cards to create the void-tech deck. Place the deck face-down between both players. Choose a starting player. You are ready to begin.

1) Drafting phase I - The first player draws 5 cards, keeping them concealed. They must then look at the cards and select one to add to their hand, then pass the remaining cards to the second player, who will do the same.

Repeat this step, back and forth, until the fifth card is claimed. Note: at this point, the first player will have one more card than their opponent.

2) Drafting phase II - Now, starting with the second player, draw 5 more cards and repeat this process again with another round of drafting. When both players have a hand of five cards each, the drafting phase ends and gameplay proceeds to the equip phase.

3) Equip phase - Simultaneously, both players will reveal their hands and each arrange their 5 cards in a row on the table in front of them, placing the cards to best maximize their scoring potential. Each player must also choose two of their cards to “install” which allows them to also trigger the install ability at the bottom of those cards (assuming any required scoring conditions are met).

When choosing install cards, slide them halfway above the other cards in your 5-card spread, so they can be clearly identified.

When both players have finished arranging their equipment spread and have selected their install ability cards, proceed to the scoring phase.

Scoring

Tally up the victory points for your spread, including:

  • Each card’s base victory point value (upper left)
  • Each card’s basic scoring ability (in black) if those conditions are met
  • The install abilities (bottom, in white) of the two cards you selected to install

The player with the highest score survives the void and wins the game.
