Description

Nine Tails is a two-player strategy game that fits inside a mint tin!

The uneasy truce between the two neighboring feline nations has been broken! War is to be waged... and only the side who can recruit and use the skills of their feline subjects most effectively will be victorious!

The rules are simple.

The gameplay is fast.

The cats...are ridiculous.

Hurl your subjects into your opponent's territory with a Catapult, take out an opponent with a Catsassin or push your enemies back with a Cattering Ram!

Meet the Nine Cats

ninecards.jpg

Each card has a different cat on the front and back. There are nine different types of cats, and four cats of each type.

The four icons on the top of each card indicate the four cats on the rear of that type of card. For example, of the four Catapult cards, two have Cattering Rams on the rear, one has a Cataclysm and another has an Educator: four_cats.jpg Each type of cat has a unique action that affects nearby cards. Cards in one or both territories can be affected, depending on the acting cat's position.

A player must claim a cat to use its action, indicated by their colored cube on top of the card. Only the visible cat on the top of the card is claimed, not the cat on the underside of the card.

Set Up

  • Shuffle the 18 cat cards
  • Deal six cards. Players take turns taking a card and peeking at the back.
  • Deal 12 cards. Players take turns taking a card without peeking at the back.
  • Players create their 'territory' by arranging their nine cards in a 3 x 3 grid, with the top three cards facing each other.

Gameplay

Nine Tails is a turn-based game. A player must perform one of the following actions on their turn, where available.

Claim: Flip over any unclaimed card in your territory and place your colored cube on top of the card. Immediately perform the action of the cat now on the face of that card.

Use: Use the action of one of your claimed cats, regardles of its current territory.

Move: From within only your territory, move one of your claimed cards and its cube, or an unclaimed card, to an adjacent empty slot in your territory.

Winning

A player wins the game when at least six of their opponent's subjects are destroyed (a subject is either an opponent card or an unclaimed card in the opponent's territory).
