PLOT Playing Cards - Eastern U.S. Native Plants

Would you like to be inspired by images of gorgeous plants the next time you sit down to play cards? Every card in this deck shows off a different garden plant that is native to much of the Eastern United States, and more specifically the Ridge and Valley region of Virginia. All the artwork is original and done by Virginia artist Maggie Johnson. The common name and scientific name of each species are included as well.

Suits are made up of unique species that all grow well in the same conditions:

♥ Hearts / Meadow plants that like dry soil and full sun

♦ Diamonds / Marsh plants that like wet soil and full sun

♠ Spades / Creekside plants that like wet soil and shade

♣ Clubs / Woodland plants that like dry soil and shade

In each suit, the plants increase in height as the numbers increase from 2 to Ace. Cards 2-10 are perennials, J-K are shrubs, and A is a flowering tree.

The two jokers briefly refer to these elements of card organization to help players understand how they are arranged, and hopefully help them discover something new about the plants they encounter while playing.

These cards were inspired by PLOT: the native planting board game, and the artwork is a subset of the larger collection of images used in that game, which I am currently working to publish. This deck of cards helps support the bigger project: my original dream of creating a board game to help people discover the joys of planting a native garden and become more familiar with native plants and pollinators than they were before they played!
