Are you interested in native insects, or would you simply enjoy encountering intriguing creatures as you play your next game of bridge, spades, cribbage, or go fish? Every card in the deck has a different image of a pollinator you might come across in the Eastern United States. All the artwork is original and done by Virginia artist Maggie Johnson. The common name and scientific name of each species are included as well.
Suits are made up of unique species of the same type of pollinator:
♥ Hearts are all butterflies
♦ Diamonds are moths
♠ Spades are bees
♣ Clubs are an assortment of "others" including various flies, beetles, wasps, and hummingbirds
Two jokers are also included and contain brief information about these pollinators, their dependence on native plants, and their importance in the food chain.
These cards were inspired by PLOT: the native planting board game, and the artwork is a subset of the larger collection of images used in that game, which I am currently working to publish. This deck of cards helps support the bigger project: my original dream of creating a board game to help people discover the joys of planting a native garden and become more familiar with native plants and pollinators than they were before they played! Find out more about the board game at home.plotnativeplantsgame.com
And don't miss the companion deck of PLOT playing cards with all native plants from the Eastern U.S!
