Whether chilling in the Cabana, hanging out in the pool, or getting some grub at Hopp’s, it’s sure to be a fun day. At least until those clouds in the distance roll in.
Have fun, but not too much fun according to the life guards.
The goal of the game is to obtain the most Pool Party points. These points can be gained in a variety of ways.
Each round begins with a physical challenge. The Chicken Fight Challenge card is simulated by thumb-wrestling your opponent for example. The winner of the match gains the Pool Party Points.
Then each player has a chance to move their five family member tokens (transparent cubes) to different areas of the resort. They can head to the food lines for snacks. Or cannonball into the pool. Or race to get the best pool stuff, such as a beach ball or the best poolside table. At the end of each round each player checks for sun exposure, and moves their family's marker along the sun tan track. A perfect tan at the end of the game is worth the most points, but move any further to the sunburn area and start losing points.
Some actions may be fun, but violate the pool rules. An opponent may then play a 'Lifeguard blows the whistle' card. This will cause the token to have to listen to a safety lecture, missing a round of play.
As the game moves along, the weather marker will keep moving toward 'rain'. Once it starts to rain, the game will end that round. After the game ends, each player reveals their secret Family Fun goal, such as obtaining many items, or having the most tokens in the pool. Achieving your Family Fun goal is worth extra Pool Party points which are added to your score.
The player with the most Pool Party points wins the game.
