This kit is an add-on to the RallyBird Baseball board game. You cannot play with out the base game, which provides a baseball contest between teams of equal potential. (It's available here on the Game Crafter: http://bit.ly/RallyBird .) See below for an unboxing video.
This add-on provides 24 additional two-sided GLOVE tiles and rules for adapting historic MLB* team performance to the RallyBird Baseball Rules. Based on statistics, these rules allow you to experience in RallyBird Baseball board game terms how the big league's 30 teams were different from each other. At this time, only the 2017-2018 season is available. I am working on the just-finished 2019 season!
It includes 2 sets of Gloves in red and blue, both with a large range of possibilities in order for you to play your choice of 2018 Big League team according to the enclosed RallyBird rules for it.
*"MLB" and its 30 team names are trademarks™ or registered® trademarks of their respective holders. Use of them does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by them.
30 PROFESSIONAL TEAMS
Some teams have better starter pitchers, and then there's the issue of relievers. How will they face off against each team's batters? While RallyBird Baseball normally starts in the 7th inning with a reliever, you can choose to play a full 9-inning game if you wish. See the RallyBird Board Game page for more details, but keep in mind that with this kit, pitching and batting reflects 30 team performance differentials over the season, not the 1,280 individual players.
Why use larger scale team stats? Because it fit smoothly and inexpensively into the parameters of this easy 45 minute to 1-hour board game designed to play, play again, casually but with meaningful decisions for offense and defense.
This expansion to the base game uses team stats to impact the value of the team's array of Glove tiles in ways beyond the base game--that's why you need this additional set of Glove tiles. It also impacts the number of At Bat cards your offense can (and can't) use each inning. A weaker batting team against a team with good pitching has fewer options--but they still do have some options to make the best of. The base game requires you to reserve one random At Bat card as unavailable. Here, according to the contestant's strengths and weaknesses, you might need to reserve as many as 6 or as few as zero--usually it's in between.
It's a broad treatment, aggregate, not detailed. Your details will come from your individual choices, your opponent's tactics, and luck. What this accomplishes is playability--60 minutes or less, or perhaps 90 minutes if you add the fun "rally bird" rule that supports the underdog in the 9th Inning. I designed this game for quick meaningful turns to play, play again, and play with your friends and family. This Big League add-on continues that purpose--light, leisurely, but thoughtful baseball fun. And it adds the extra fire you might feel when you associate your decisions with professional teams you care about (or gnash your teeth over).
EASY ADVANCED GAME
Separate from the historic professional team option, this add-on kit also comes with 5 Jumbo sized coach cards to support an easy advanced game for the RallyBird Board Game. These direct each side to have a different array of Glove tile values than the standard game provides. Each are arguably equal in strength, but apportion strengths and weakness differently. It leads to the challenges and excitement of asymmetrical play. This kit includes the Coach card rules.
24 GLOVE TILES
The greater array of enclosed 24 Glove tile values permit the defensive strength variation that the Coach cards and the professional historic team ratings require.
Note: Yes! These Glove Tiles and Big League Team Rules will physically fit in the base game box, so you don't need to buy or store an extra box for this add-on.
Also note: This add-on kit only works with the regular RallyBird Baseball Board Game (http://bit.ly/RallyBird), not the mini version.
If you don't know, RALLYBIRD BASEBALL is a baseball board game designed to emphasize meaningful decisions for both offensive and defense, as well as playability.
It's designed for quick play (about 1 hour, often less) and rules that are easy to master and teach. Instead of referring to the booklet over and over, you'll be immersed in the thwack & ploompf of baseball's bats and gloves. Please take a look at the game's own page to learn a lot more! Thank you.
