Stygian Jungle

You awake in a cold sweat... something is wrong. The jungle outside the tent is silent. Dead quiet. Night sounds you have grown accustomed to over these weeks of the expedition are forebodingly absent.

You step out into the still night air. The base camp is in disarray. Some of your fellow explorers are looking around blearily in confusion. Where is the professor? The jungle looms in from all sides, dense and claustrophobic.

Suddenly a terrifying shriek pierces the ether, driving you to your knees in the mud. An ululating cacophony made by no earthly creature, tearing at your mind and soul. It breaks spasmodically and you are deafened by the silence that follows.

As the effects of the scream fade, reason returns. The realisation is swift and terrible. The relics have been disturbed and the portals are open. Humanity is exposed to the elder horrors which lurk beyond in unknown dimensions. Fell beasts from before the nightmares of men are coming for us all.

You must recover and replace the relics before they find their way through. It is your only hope. Everyone's only hope.

But what about the other explorers? Can they be trusted? Who took the relics and where are they now? The answers are out there, in the dark. Like you, lost in the stygian jungle.
