‘Tarot Reader: Arcanum Aperui’ is game for Tarot Readers to get together and have fun, while learning from each other and improving in their own tarot reading abilities. Arcanum Aperui can be translated out of Latin as, ‘The Secrets Revealed’, or ‘The Mysteries Disclosed.’ This game will improve your ability to read tarot cards by providing a means of using tarot cards to brainstorm solutions for dilemmas presented during the game. This is a scaled down version of the ‘Christian Mystic Tarot Card Board Game’. In order to make it more affordable the number of pieces were reduced, but the game play remains the same. It does not include any deck of Tarot Cards, because each player will likely have their own deck anyways. This version also does not include a ‘game board’, but uses the ‘Box Cover’ as both they game board and the carrying case for the accessories. It includes three sets of cards: Scenario, Interaction, and Tree of Life, which are used in the game, game pieces, and a spinner. The Spinner is reversible, with a Spinner on one side, and a Pendulum board on the other. A Pendulum is not included with the game, but the included Pendulum board can be used to select the number of spaces to move, type of card to draw, or to answer ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ questions.
The purpose of this game is for the players to evaluate situations and come up with creative solutions to life’s problems by interpreting the imagery on tarot cards. It is meant to make players think outside of the box; it requires them to interpret images and to connect random concepts in order to put the pieces together into a coherent story (tarot reading). While playing this game, players will also focus on spiritual concepts and appraise their personal development. As the game is played, tarot cards are constantly being moved from the deck and/or reshuffled, making the final outcome/reading completely randomized. Players are required to think on their feet, interpret images, and must be able to connect abstract ideas and use them to produce a logical reading based on the random placement/selection of cards.
This game uses tarot cards and reflect on spiritual concepts in order to contemplate one’s current development; while also exercising one’s mind in order to interpret and connect the theoretical dots to produce coherent and sound advice, which will enhance the player’s ability to use discernment, think on his/her feet, and problem solve. It is meant for one to four players, and who can either share or each utilize their own tarot decks. This is a game that everyone wins, because it simulates each player’s creativity, enhances their problem solving skills, and allows them to learn from and/or apply the advice produced by all players to their own lives or to assist others. It addresses both practical and spiritual matters.
During the game, players may be required to draw a card from one of three different piles. ‘Scenario’ cards provide a fictional situation that requires the player to perform a short tarot reading in order to brainstorm advice and produce a solution. ‘Interaction’ cards have the player reflect on a personal experience or hypothetical situation related to a randomly drawn tarot card, which causes the players to have a short conversion on the topic for everyone’s personal growth. ‘Tree of Life’ cards focus on different aspects of spiritual development that the player must contemplate and reconcile with the images/concepts on a card drawn from the tarot deck.
All of these activities are designed to exercise the players’ thinking processes, while stimulating conversation among players, and as they share their personal experiences or understandings of spiritual matters. This is both a lighthearted game that simulates one’s cognitive abilities, and it provides an avenue for deep spiritual reflection.
