Overview:

The Theatre is an expandable card game that combines the deep strategy and variety of deckbuilding card battlers with the quick gameplay of trick-taking games.

In The Theatre you take on the role of Director for an entertainment venue, building a roster of staff and performers to put on a better performance than your competitors.

Quick Rules

The Theatre is played in successive Acts of 5 rounds each - players draw 5 cards from their deck and then play one card each round, with the highest value card winning and the other cards removed from the game. The goal is to remove enough cards from your opponent's decks that they are unable to draw 5 cards at the start of a new Act, thus eliminating them from the game. Cards have various values as well as abilities that will modify values (both positive and negative) for all players, making each Act and each round feel unique but still quick.

Suit cards will be laid out each Act as well, which will give bonuses to cards that are played with the matching suit, adding a layer of strategy in the ordering of what cards are played.

Ways to Play

The game can be played in several ways - first is the standard quickplay using pre-built decks that come in the Set 1 Box. 4 pre-built decks are included and can be shuffled and distributed immediately upon opening the box.

Additionally you can build your own deck and play against other custom decks. Rules are included for building decks from the cards - and cards from additional sets can be mixed in for infinite possibilities.

Finally the game can be played via Draft. Rules for drafting can be found on the website along with drafting cards that allow players to build a custom deck with others - all using just the one box to make even more dynamic decks, adding the layer of strategy similar to Boost Drafting in collectible card games.

What's Inside

The Set 1 Box contains a full playset (2 cards) of all 120 cards in Set 1 "The Grand Opening", along with token cards and suit cards to help facilitate play. A quickstart guide is included along with card dividers to help organize cards further. Nothing additional is needed to play the game.

A full rulebook and templates for drafting cards can be found on the official website. These may be sold in separate packs in the future. Additional sets will be sold in different boxes.
