A century ago, a dark, therianthropic curse forever changed your village into half-men, half-rats who no longer gave birth to human babies, but to litters of the equally misfortunate.

Detested by all others, your village kept to itself, overtime learning to be self-sufficient and content with only each other as your population surged. With each new generation, this ill-fate became the norm and melancholy shifted towards more hopeful thoughts of a brighter future. That is, until the Warrior King, in need of resources, enslaved your kind to “put your sudden infestation to better use”.

Now, viewed as yet more flea-ridden rodents in a kingdom already overrun with rodents, you are given but two options each morning: Hack away at the enchanted thorns that endlessly grow towards the King’s castle? Or fight and surely perish on the front lines of his brutal expansion wars?

Day, after day, after day you decide. One or the other. No alternatives. No negotiating. One provides exhaustion, but a chance to see the sunrise. Whereas the other provides a... way out. Until now, the choice has been easy. Always life. Day, after day, after day. Endure. Live on. If not for yourself, then for your kind, who have suffered so much for reasons lost to time.

Only, on this day a group of you are pulled aside by the King's council. The two options that you've become accustomed to are not offered. In their place is but one other. Only one. Fight each other to the death to determine who amongst you deserves to survive...
