Have you ever been plopped into a room with LOTS of strangers and, like... that blanket of awkwardness only got heavier as the clock did its thing?
Well, I sure have... but that's only to be expected when you teach college speech classes populated with freshmen and seniors!
Enter this game. I throw it at the beautiful babies during our first class meeting, and let me tell you...!
Hand one card to each pair or group, give them a few minutes to develop a skit around the barrier on that there card, and then let'em go to town.
For advanced (or especially-BEAST) groups, give them two or even three cards! (Muahaha.)
It's a life-saver in my communication classes--and on game nights. And in workplace situations where everyone's like, "Um... why. WHY are we here when--arghh!!!"
Seriously. You're distracting them from being all nervous, you're giving them a chance to shine, and you're ALSO getting to know about THEM.
If they're struggling with the whole "I don't know what plot to use!" thing, share the story-line of a fun-filled film, hand them a card from the optional Communication PLOTS deck (sold separately), or help them out with some fanciful creation of your own.
