Inspired by the card game Fluxx and the alternate reality game SFZero, Drifft is a dérive with training wheels in the form of cards that suggest things for you to do. You do not play Drifft sitting at a table; you play it while undertaking a journey to noplace in particular.
The game does not come with any rules, because figuring out what the rules are is part of the game. You might start the game by drawing and playing a card, and then draw and play a new card at each intersection you come to. If you're playing with multiple people, you might each have a small hand of cards and take turns strategically playing them to try to manipulate the journey. You might start coming up with house rules, like saying that you may never retrace your steps, so as to avoid the "local maxima" problem. You might shuffle the Drifft cards into a Fluxx deck and see what happens.
You might find that the cards are completely superfluous.
