Grim Wagers

You and your opponent are Death’s apprentices. Wager that you can usher the people highest on Death’s list to the hereafter.

Grim Wagers is a trick-taking game for 2 players inspired by the traditional card game Watten.

It has several differences to Watten including quicker bidding using a blind card system, four major cards which form top trumps, and tracker cards to keep score and select the trump suit and rank.

There are four phases:

• Deal - players are dealt 5 cards each
• Announce trumps - the dealer chooses the suit, while the non dealer chooses the trump rank
• Bid - players play their bid cards face-down and these are revealed before the next phase (if tied, the bid is set, or if someone has a lower bid they can either play, fold or raise)
• Challenge - players aim to win 3 tricks, if they do they gain points equal to the bid

The first player to reach or exceed 24 points wins!
