Description

Kingdoms is a 3-5 player card game based on the classic card game "Sevens". Play cards of four suits (Kingdoms) in descending (7-1) and ascending (8-13) order. Collect coins, pay taxes, use Prosperity Cards and avoid the Plague. Kingdoms include the Kingdom of Dragons, Kingdom of Pixies, Kingdom of Seafarers and Kingdom of Animals.

A Classic Card Game in a Modern Take for Board Gamers:

Kingdoms is based on the traditional card game Sevens in which players play cards in consecutive order from 7 down to 1 on one side, and from 8 up to 13 (King) on the other. The aim of a single round is to be the first to get rid of all the cards in your hand.

Kingdoms adds several new aspects to the game of Sevens:

  • A FLUCTUATING ECONOMY: Players start with 20 coins each and the game ends when one player has run out of coins, at which point the player with the most coins left is the winner. You pay coins when playing cards and for the cards that you have left in your hand at the end of a round.

  • CARD ABILITIES: Each card has a text-based ability such as paying or collecting coins, drawing special Prosperity Cards, getting to play an additional card, and more.

  • PROSPERITY CARDS: Prosperity Cards are a separate deck of special cards that have unique actions that can be activated at strategic times, such as forcing a player to play a specific card or collecting taxes from other players.

  • TAXES: At the start of each new round all players must pay 1 coin in "tax" to their own Kingdom. Whenever someone plays the Tax Collector (number 11) of a specific Kingdom they get to collect all taxes currently on that Kingdom.

  • THE PLAGUE: If a player is unable to play a card they must take the Plague. Whoever has the Plague at the end of a round pays a penalty of 3 coins.

  • THE DRAGON'S LAIR: It is possible to win the game regardless of the current coin count by playing the number 1 of the Kingdom of Dragons as your very last card. This is a fairly rare event but does happen and is a way to keep the game interesting even for the poorest of players.

A Family Game or for Any Board Game Night:

Kingdoms is suitable from 10 years and up but is a great game with adult groups. It works with 3-5 players and can take anywhere between 15 and 90 minutes.
