For Teachers and parents;
Math & Monsters makes math practice exciting by turning it into a dungeon adventure! Students explore a deck of cards, battle monsters with math problems, and race to find the Exit before losing all their Hearts. Every battle is solved through equations created with number cards and dice, giving kids a fun way to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and comparisons.
Teachers and parents love it because the game is flexible—difficulty can be adjusted to match any skill level, from simple addition to multi-step problems. Extra dice stickers let you customize the math focus, and starting Hearts can be set to make the game shorter, longer, easier, or more challenging.
By combining storytelling, problem-solving, and immediate feedback, Math & Monsters keeps students engaged, motivated, and eager to try again. It’s not just a math drill—it’s an adventure where learning happens naturally through play!
Gameplay/Rules;
Goal of the Game
You’re exploring a dungeon, trying to find the exit! Monsters will try to stop you, and you’ll need to solve math problems to defeat them.
If you find the Exit card before you lose all your hearts, you win!
If you lose all your hearts, it’s game over.
Setup
Put the stickers on the Operator Dice (you only need to do this once).
Take out the 2 red cards from the Value Deck.
Shuffle the Value Deck and the Explore Deck.
(Tip: Put the Exit card at the bottom if you want a longer game.)
Place the Result Card in front of you with a dry erase marker.
If you want, you can use a multiplication chart for help. Now you’re ready to begin your adventure!
How to Play
Flip cards from the Explore Deck.
If it’s not a Monster, keep drawing.
If you draw a Monster, you must fight it!
Fighting a Monster:
Draw a Value card for the Monster.
Draw a Value card for yourself.
Roll both Operator Dice.
Place the green die with the Monster’s card.
Place the blue die with your card.
Draw another Value card for the Monster (goes after their die).
Draw another Value card for yourself (goes after your die).
Solve both equations and write the answers on your Result Card.
Winning or Losing a Fight:
If your answer is bigger than the Monster’s answer, or if your answer is True (for comparisons), you win the battle!
If not, you lose a heart.
Keep playing:
Keep drawing Explore cards until you find the Exit or lose all your hearts.
Game Over & Winning
If you still have hearts when you find the Exit → You escape and win!
If you lose all your hearts first → Game over, try again!
Game Options
Teachers can change the dice to make the math easier or harder.
You can play with only one operator (like just + or ×).
You can try bigger numbers using scrap paper or calculators.
Start with 1–10 hearts. More hearts = longer game, easier to win.
Can be played solo or as a group sharing a table or desk.
