A cataclysmic sandstorm sweeps across Giza, stripping the desert bare and revealing a pyramid long forgotten by history. Local archaeologists declare it the lost tomb of the legendary Pharaoh Medullhotep. Excavation teams quickly clear an entrance, and the first intrepid explorers step into vast shadowy chambers. Inside, ancient walls are etched with perfectly preserved but unfamiliar hieroglyphs, each level of the pyramid marked by a distinct pattern of mysterious symbols. To decipher their meaning, the expedition recruits famed paleoneurologist Tilly Edinger and renowned neuro-cryptographer Ramona Cajal. They soon realize the truth: the Tomb of Medullhotep is a symbolic map of the human brainstem.
Will these bitter scientific rivals join forces to unlock the secrets of all eight levels of the tomb? Not likely. After all, tenure is on the line. Instead, Edinger and Cajal race to decipher more glyphs than the other, even as the desert closes its grip on the pyramid and the shifting sands threaten to entomb them forever.
In Neuroglyphs: Secrets of the Medullary Pyramid, you play as one of two rival scientists exploring a symbolic map of the brainstem hidden within an ancient tomb. On each turn, players move an obelisk across the shifting tiles of the pyramid, revealing glyphs that represent signs and vascular distributions and using them to query their opponent about hidden Lesion Cards. By asking, ruling out levels, and deducing, players work to collect hidden Lesion Cards before the sands close in and the board disappears.
