Quaternion Trick

Quaternion Trick is a series of four related trick-taking games, which each revolve around the mathematical concept of the Quaternion.

Quaternions are four-dimensional numbers, which have strange and wonderful properties under multiplication.

Thankfully, you need not know anything about real Quaternion math to play this game, just know that the core of this has mathematical roots.

The game consists of 27 cards numbered -2 to 6 in three suits and includes four trick-taking games:

1. A trick-prediction game,
2. A point game,
3. A point prediction game,
4. A trick avoidance game.

Each of these follow this core principle:

• If all the cards played share the same suit, then the trick resolves as normal.
• If the trick contains only two of the same suit, the majority suit fizzles, is discarded, and the minority suit is taken as the trick
• If the trick contains all different suits, the whole trick fizzles and is discarded.

In other words: i² = j² = k² = ijk = -1.
