What is Reading Stacks

This game is a fun sociable game designed for ESL students. It uses the simple and fun rules of the popular game Nimmt to teach students how to read various phonetics.

The rules are very simple. Each player is dealt ten cards and four cards are laid down face up in front of all the players. Every round players choose and reveal one card simultaneously. The player with the lowest number reads the card and then places it on top of a face down card. They must place their card on top of the card that has a lower number than their card and the one that is closest in number to it. When a player plays the sixth card in a stack they must take all five cards below it. The winner of the game is the player that has the least amount of cards after the original ten cards have all been discarded. Why this game is great for the classroom:

• Fast: This game is usually over in 5-10 minutes. Even if it isn't over you can just end the game and say the player with the most cards loses.

• Simple: Everything the students need to say is printed on the back of the card.

• Speaking: You have to speak to play the game.

• Repetitive: They will learn the vocabulary on these cards in a fun way.

• Fun: Probably the most important part of any game. Kids love this game and are always ready to play it.

• All of the backgrounds on these cards have been AI generated using MidJourney.
