The Tone Wars is a pre-constructed expansion deck for Rock & Roll Brouhaha.
It started with one simple overdrive pedal. Then another. Soon, Evan’s studio apartment was a shrine to signal processing. His shelves were lined with glowing stompboxes, each promising tonal transcendence. Not to be outdone, bassist Alejandro expanded his range (and his chiropractor bill) with a 22-string electric bass. It was an instrument with a neck so wide that navy jets could land on it.
This obsession with gear spread through the bandmates like power surges through a poorly grounded amp. Quinn became entranced by the ceremonial gong behind the counter at Miss Ruby’s Drum Parlour. He would not rest until it was his. Monique, the band’s Synth Sorceress, arrived at rehearsal one night cradling a theremin like a newborn deity. It was then that Evan realized: The band had succumbed to Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
This relentless pursuit of tone would reach its crescendo on the rooftop of The Penwick Building downtown. This is where the band would make its final glorious stand…
Evan looked around as Quinn's gong reverberated ominously. He wondered how the mix sounded down on street level. He wondered if their 7 power strips might overload the single rooftop outlet. Mostly, he wondered how he was going to explain next month's credit card statement to his Fiancée.
