“Taasen: The Tryslmaistan Game” is an abstract strategy game born from a unique and meticulously crafted universe. Created by Jennifer Diane Reitz as part of her webcomic, Unicorn Jelly, the game introduces you to Tryslmaistan – a world with different physics, societies, and traditions than our own. This triangular worldplate is a stage for intense tactical combat, where three factions – the Wiccans (Thaum), the Alchemists (Sciane), and the common people (Paupil) – battle for control.
The game works like chess or Go, relying entirely on strategy – no luck involved. Three factions fight for control of a triangular worldplate, but only two players move the pieces. The rock-paper-scissors combat system creates weird tactical situations you won’t find in other games.
You'll move one piece exactly one space on your turn – either your own colored pieces, or a neutral White piece. The goal is to eliminate all of your opponent’s pieces, or to immobilize them so they can’t make any more moves.
When you move adjacent to an opponent’s piece, you can Push them; they must move that piece to any empty space, or it is Crushed and removed. A Push cannot be used to repeat actions—the piece cannot be pushed back to its original location.
The three factions – Thaum, Sciane, and Paupil – use a rock-paper-scissors combat system: Thaum Pushes Sciane, Sciane Pushes Paupil, and Paupil Pushes Thaum
Taasen isn’t just a game; it's the creative vision of Jennifer Diane Reitz, a transgender artist whose work spans decades of game design, digital art, and storytelling. Her dedication to crafting a fully realized world – from the game's rules to its mythology – makes Taasen a truly unforgettable gaming experience.
This edition is a full playable set, but if you'd like to order 3D printed pieces that more closely match the original design from the comic, they are available as print-on-demand in colors of your choice on Thangs.com.
PLEASE NOTE: The white color on the game pieces is NOT on the current design, where it was replaced with faction colors.
