Description

The so-called Rosenwald sheets are one of the earliest examples of woodcut tarot, surviving on reject sheets that were reused in book binding in 1501. The charm of this deck is in its joyful, almost childish imagery, and the unique depiction of knights in the guise of centaurs.

This edition was faithfully redrawn and hand coloured in watercolour pencil to give a modern feel to these ancient images. The original sheets are missing 6 cards, and a further 2 are heavily damaged. To restore these images, elements of other cards within the deck have been used to build up the new images, which allows them to retain the character of the rest of the deck.

The finished cards are slightly larger than the originals, allowing for the requisite border. Included in the deck are two cards depicting original card spreads to try in your readings, and a 40 page booklet with new modernised tarot interpretations. The New Rosenwald Tarot allows collectors a unique opportunity to finally acquire a beautiful new version of this important historical deck.
