Description

Lu MA is interested in pushing the boundaries of consciousness and finding access to unconsciousness through art. The Uncanny Tarot is an example of this. Theoretically inspired by psychoanalysis, MA translates the clues to unconsciousness in The Uncanny of Freud into visual forms and imports the uncanny imagery she gets from her visual translation into the creation of this non-stereotyped tarot deck. The work is an experiment of tarot making in photo media combining the outcomes of both the conscious awareness of tarot symbolism and the unconscious method of surrealist psychic automatism, which makes it an in-betweenness of consciousness and unconsciousness.
