TQY Companion

My goal for this project was to create a set of cards to act as a companion for Avery Alder's utterly FANTASTIC "The Quiet Year" map creation role-playing masterpiece.

My design thought process was to do away with the "suit" of cards from a poker deck and focus on the seasons of the year, helping the players engage more to the theme of the game and less on the "poker" deck aspect. Furthermore I chose to design the cards in a way to be able to rotate the card to read the other choice, giving the players a sense of separating the choices in their mind. I have also colored "action" verbiage in "Blue" for neutral, "Green" for positive and "Red" for negative actions to further aid players in choice selection.

I designed a box to hold the game as well, doing away with the rustic "burlap" sack option which while themed well, does not stack great with the rest of the boxed games on one's shelf of board games.
