Tricolor Deck

The Tricolor deck is a deck without a game (so far at least). It was born out of a thought experiment of trying to turn a triangle graph into a set of playing cards. Each card represents a ratio of three values, which all add up to 100%.

I chose 7 as the highest number for this deck because it makes 36 cards. A number nicely divisible among 2, 3, and 4 players. Future releases of the deck may come in bigger or smaller sizes.

Interesting properties of this deck:

• It contains the same number of cards as the equivalent set of dominoes. Had the highest number been 6, then the number of cards would've been 28, same as a "Double 6" set of dominoes. If the highest number had been 9, then it would've had the same number of cards as a "Double 9" set of dominoes, namely 55.
• The sum of each suit is 84, and the sum across the whole deck is 252.
• The yellow suit is always in the middle when all three colours exist.
• For every colour, there are eight 0s, seven 1s, six 2s, five 3s, four 4s, three 5s, two 6s, and one 7.
• If a card has a 7, the other two suits are guaranteed to be 0.
• None of the cards have an equal amount of each colour.
• Only four cards equally distribute around the yellow suit: 070, 151, 232, and 313.
