Trumpster Fire is a satirical, educational board game that explores one of the most urgent questions of our time: How does democracy get systematically undermined — and why do most people never see it coming?
Check out the game designer's personal explanation of the game!
Drawing on real events in American history and parallel examples from the rise of authoritarianism worldwide, Trumpster Fire gives players a front-row seat to the strategies, manipulations, and dumpster fires that erode free societies.
This is not a game about a single politician. It's a game about a playbook — one that has been used by aspiring authoritarians for centuries. Players take on the role of rivals racing to become Supreme Chancellor of Planet Earth, using Propaganda, Personal Loyalty Checks, Island Express deals, and Dirty Little Secrets to outmaneuver their opponents.
Along the way, you'll learn to recognize the patterns. And once you see them, you can't unsee them.
Although everyone starts on the same space, a player rolling "1" on their FIRST roll get the "Golden Child" bonus of an additional 6 spaces.
If you land on a space matching the color of your piece, you get a +1/-1 option on your turn because every good little fascist knows they get the best advantage with their own color.
Each loop on the game board is rounded until a player lands exactly on the dumpster fire space, enabling them to finally officially set a dumpster fire in that part of the ascension plan.
The first two players to set all their dumpster fires enter the final segment, moving 1 space per turn, unleashing all the dirty little secrets and other advantages that were gathered during the game.
The player finally landing in the last space claims the title of Supreme Chancellor of the World.
Is the game a little over the top? Well, that's what makes it fun. Is it totally unrealistic and just making fun of one or more politicians? No. The game is not intended to make fun of anyone. If it seems over the top, you're not paying enough attention to what's really going on. This game puts events and circumstances of the last few decades into one place without headlines and without spin to make the relationships and patterns crystal clear.
The game of satire and historical parallels that brings to light how democracy can be systematically undermined.
