THE SQUAD: DECK CONSTRUCTION

Build your ultimate 25-card squad and prepare for kick-off! A balanced team is the key to victory!

The Visual Draft (Card Backs): Every position is instantly recognizable from the back of the card, making gameplay and drafting lightning-fast!

• Yellow = Goalkeeper (GK)
• Blue = Defender (DEF)
• Green = Midfielder (MID)
• Red = Forward (FWD)
• Purple = Coach

Squad Requirements (25 Cards)

Every deck must contain exactly:

• 2 Goalkeepers (GK)
• 7 Defenders (DEF)
• 7 Midfielders (MID)
• 6 Forwards (FWD)
• 3 Coaches

Total: 25 Cards.

Player Rarity Limits

Build wisely by balancing superstars with reliable squad members.

Players

• Bronze (65–79 OVR): Minimum 7 Cards

• Silver (80–89 OVR): Minimum 6 Cards

• Gold (90–95 OVR): Maximum 5 Cards

• Epic / Legend (96+ OVR): Maximum 4 Cards

Coach Limits

Every squad must include exactly 3 Coaches.

• 1 Coach of any rarity
• 1 Coach up to Epic rarity
• 1 Coach up to Gold rarity

Filling the Squad

Missing high-rarity players? No problem.

You may always use lower-rarity players to complete your deck as long as all positional and rarity requirements are respected.

THE STARTING XI: SETUP & DRAFTING

Before the match begins, each player must select their Starting XI.

1. Draw Your Team

Randomly draw 11 Player Cards from your 22-player roster.

(Coaches are not included in the draw.)

2. Choose Your Formation

Formations are determined by your Coaches.

Each Coach grants:

• One specific formation
• Team-wide passive stat bonuses

You may choose any formation available from your three Coaches.

All Coach bonus stats are cumulative and remain active throughout the match.

3. Formation Requirements

Your Starting XI must contain:

• 1 Goalkeeper
• 3–5 Defenders
• 3–5 Midfielders
• 1–3 Forwards

As long as these requirements are met, any Coach formation may be used.

4.The Tactical Sub

• Once your Starting XI forms a valid formation, you may perform one optional Tactical Substitution.
• Choose 1 player from your Starting XI and discard it. Then draw 1 random replacement card from your remaining deck that matches the same position (GK, DEF, MID, or FWD).
• The newly drawn card immediately takes the discarded player's place in your Starting XI.
• Each player may perform only one Tactical Substitution during setup.

5. Take the Pitch

Place your Starting XI face-down on the playmat according to your chosen formation.

6. Coin Toss

Flip a coin.

The winner chooses who takes the kick-off and the first turn.

THE PITCH: ACTION BOARD SYSTEM

Ultimate XI uses an Action Board instead of traditional card effects or dice tables.

All stat battles are determined using:

Two Standard Six-Sided Dice

Rolling the Dice:

• Roll both dice.
• Add the results together.
• Move your marker to the corresponding space on the Action Board.
• The space landed on determines which stat or stat combination is used for the battle.

Every attack, pass, interception, save, and shot is resolved using the Action Board.

This creates a mix of strategy, roster building, and unpredictable match-day moments.

HOW TO PLAY: THE MATCH PHASE

Each turn consists of two possible phases.

PHASE 1: MIDFIELD CLASH

Midfielder vs Defender

• The attacking player begins by selecting one of their Midfielders.
• Choose an opposing Defender as the target.

Roll For Action

• Both players roll two six-sided dice and move their markers on the Action Board.
• The resulting spaces determine which stats will be compared.

Reveal & Resolve

• Reveal both cards.
• Compare the appropriate stat or stat combination shown by the Action Board.

If the Midfielder Wins

• The Defender is destroyed and removed from play.
• The Midfielder successfully delivers the ball to a Forward.
• Proceed to Phase 2.

If the Defender Wins

• The attacking Midfielder is destroyed and removed from play.
• The ball is intercepted.
• The turn immediately passes to the opposing player.

Desperation Rule

• If all of a player's Forwards have been eliminated, a winning Midfielder may attempt a direct shot on goal.
• If all Defenders on a team have been eliminated, Midfielders automatically drop back and are treated as Defenders whenever required.

PHASE 2: THE STRIKE

Forward vs Goalkeeper

If the Midfielder successfully wins Phase 1, a Forward may attempt a shot on goal.

Roll For Action

• Both players roll two six-sided dice and move their markers on the Action Board.
• The resulting spaces determine which stats will be compared.

Reveal & Resolve

• Reveal the Forward and Goalkeeper.
• Compare the appropriate stats indicated by the Action Board.

GOAAAL!

• If the Forward's total is higher than the Goalkeeper's total, a Goal is scored.
• The attacking player's turn ends after scoring.

DENIED!

• If the Goalkeeper's total is equal to or higher than the Forward's total, the shot is saved.
• The attacking Forward is destroyed and removed from play.
• The turn then passes to the opposing player.

HOW TO WIN

There are two ways to achieve victory.

THE HAT-TRICK

Be the first player to score 3 Goals.

TOTAL ANNIHILATION

Destroy and remove every opposing outfield player from the pitch. (Goalkeepers do not count toward this condition.)

THE SPOILS

Ultimate XI can be played casually or competitively.

Before the match begins, both players may agree on optional stakes.

Examples include:

• Winner chooses a random card from the opponent's deck.
• Winner receives a pre-selected prize card.
• Friendly matches with no rewards.

The choice is entirely up to the players.

House Rules & Custom Play

The rules in this guide represent the official way Ultimate XI is designed to be played, but they're far from the only way to enjoy the game.

Feel free to experiment, create custom tournaments, invent new match formats, adjust victory conditions, or introduce your own house rules with friends. Whether you're playing casually, competitively, or creating an entirely new experience, the possibilities are nearly endless.

That's part of what makes Ultimate XI special—every group can shape the game into something uniquely their own.
