WORDY LAUNDRY

A groovy tug-of-words game

Description

Sink your hands to the elbows...in Wordy Laundry!—a quirky, retro word game with unique "push-and-pull" card manipulation.

GihFwox.png Wordy Laundry is a competitive word game, spatial puzzle, and set-collection challenge.

Players race to arrange funky 1970s laundry items on shared clotheslines, spelling words and scoring points. They'll also collect and arrange laundry in their baskets to earn game-end bonuses. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Doing laundry might sound simple task...but watch out for neighbors (and windy weather). They may snatch up desirable cards before you can!

KEY MECHANISMS

Manage a hand of "Laundry" cards.

Each Laundry card has a letter worth 1-4 Pegs (points), and has at least 1 funky retro pattern. Decide when to hang or retrieve each card from the clotheslines, and how to organize them in your Laundry Basket for maximum points.

Push and Pull the clotheslines.

Each clothesline has 2 owners, which means any Laundry you hang is never fully under your control! To collect a piece of "wet" Laundry, you must first hang it to "dry," and risk another player pulling it away. This leads to a push-and-pull tug of words that's risky and rewarding at the same time.

Use action points

Manage your moves as you to hang, push, pull, remove, and collect cards.

Spell words

Arrange Laundry items (letters) on the Clothesline. When you make a word, score Pegs (points).

Collect funky patterns

Fold "dry" Laundry cards into your Laundry Basket for game-end bonuses. Collect columns of all the same pattern, or all different patterns.

Race to fill your Laundry Basket

The first player to finish triggers the end of the game.

  1. Give each player a matching Laundry Basket, Folding Table, Washtub, and Post.
  2. Put the Pegs in a supply.
  3. Shuffle together the Laundry, Breeze, and Wind cards. Deal 7 cards to each player. Put the others face-down to form the "Laundry Heap."

Players set up their areas:

  1. Place your Laundry Basket on the table, with your Folding Table above it and your Washtub off to the side.
  2. Put your Post in front of you.
  3. Using cards from your hand, spell your first word on the "Clothesline" to your right, so that it starts at your Post and ends at your neighbor's Post.
  4. Take Pegs equal to the word's value. (For example, W-O-R-D-Y would score 3+1+1+2+2, or 9 Pegs.)

You'll control 2 Clotheslines--the one to the right of your Post, and the one to the Left. You may only add/remove Laundry using these Clotheslines.

7nMqRmO.png Everyone starts with a hand of 7 Laundry cards, featuring letters and garments in 6 funky patterns.

Each letter is worth the number of Pegs it takes to hang it on the Clothesline (1 to 4). If you arrange a word on one of your Clotheslines, it is worth the Peg value of every letter in the word (including letters than were already on the line).

The puzzly part: fold your laundry neatly in your washing basket, arranging the cards by their funky patterns. Score points for a column of all the same pattern (10 bonus Pegs) or all different patterns (5 bonus Pegs), and take Pegs for the peg value of each card, too.

If you don't want to fold a card, you can either leave it on your folding table, taking up on of the 3 spaces, or discard it into your washtub, for -1 point.

So your cards flow from your hand, onto the line, onto your folding table, and then either into your basket or into your washtub.

Wordy Laundry is good, clean fun for casual gamers who love spelling, spatial puzzles, and set collection. A colorful theme and retro art provide a chill experience without any "take that" to create bad vibes.

Will you win by being the most clever speller? The best at organizing your Laundry Basket? Or the fastest at folding? Explore different strategies as you race against your family and friends.

Notes

  • This game contains a premium upgrade called UV Coating that makes the printed components more durable.
  • This game contains laser cut components. Laser cut items will have a slight amount of soot around the edges, which can easily be wiped off; and will have a campfire smell for about a week after you open them.
