How well do you think you know the answers?
How well do you think the other players know the answers?
*You're pretty sure you can get close...but will it be close enough? *
Zero-Sum is an easy-to-learn, fast-playing trivia party game for 2 to 6 players designed to reward clever strategy as much as knowing all the answers.

-
Each round, your answers must sum to exactly 100.
That's it. That's the rule.
Every round in Zero-Sum, three question cards are revealed from the deck. Players have dry-erase boards on which they secretly write their guesses to the three questions. Their answers must add up to exactly 100. Once all players have submitted their guesses, player guesses are revealed and the question cards are flipped over to show the answers. The player who was the closest on each question takes the card. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!

-
Since the three question cards each round are drawn randomly from the deck, there is very little chance the answers will actually add up to 100.
But the players' guesses still need to.
You will find yourself making tough decisions about which questions to blow your budget on because you're confident you can get close to the correct answer. Or likewise which questions are worth guessing small numbers on--because that saddles you with a lot you need to spend on your other guesses.
And even if you are confident you can get close, are you confident another player will not get closer?
Which questions do you think the other players will blow their budgets for? Should you try to swoop in and try for one of the tougher questions instead?
The unmatched rules-to-fun ratio of Zero-Sum will make it the game your friends and family will ask for every time you get together!
Designing a party game has been a bit of a change of pace for me. I'm best known for my micro adventure and Euro games. After noticing some "complexity creep" in my latest designs, I thought it'd be fun to try to design a game that only had one rule. Zero-Sum was the result!
Here are some of my other designs.
