Kink Conscience (Expansion)

Moral Quandaries & Great Conversations

Requirements

Description

Kink Conscience is an expansion deck. You’ll need one of the following Conscience games to play: Crystal, Calm, or Polyamory.

Conscience is...

  • ...portable.
  • ...easy to learn.
  • ...a revolutionary game that generates deep conversations.
  • ...thoroughly play-tested and loved since 2013!

Conscience tests your knowledge of yourself and of your friends. There are no right and wrong answers, only the truth of you and the other players.

What would you do...

  • ...if you caught your spouse cheating on you?
  • ...if your fourteen year old daughter wanted to go on a date with a boy, alone?
  • ...if you owned an acre of rain-forest and were offered millions of dollars to have it torn down?
  • ...if your best friend applied at your establishment, and also someone more qualified?

These are just a few examples of the kinds of ethical quandaries raised in Conscience. Each unique deck is packed with unique questions, covering a broad spectrum of ethical questions, covering everything from theft to white lies, from abortion to incest, from adultery to polyamory.

Tired of talking about movies and the weather? Want to really get to know your friends and have meaningful discussions that matter to you? Then this is the game for you!

Conscience is also a great game for getting into meaningful discussions with your children. Have you ever talked to your children about sex, drugs, violence, love, marriage, fertility, politics, and health? If you have, that's great! This game will help you find even more great topics to discuss. If not, then all the more reason to get this game, so that you will have those meaningful discussions.

Conscience has six different play-styles, allowing you to use your deck in unlimited ways, keeping the game fun and fresh for years to come. You can play with as few as two players with the Duel varient, and as many as sixteen with the In A Word, Healing, and Team Truths variants!

Beyond that, Conscience asks unique moral questions never before asked in any game! (And I've played dozens of games that revolve around asking questions.)

Conscience Games

Crystal Conscience

  • Theme: Family-friendly questions. Like all Conscience decks, Crystal Conscience raises important questions of values, ethics, and ideals with a broad variety of hypothetical situations. Crystal Conscience is the most broad, and wide-ranging deck, containing many fantasy situations and quandaries from all stages of life.
  • Type: Base Game

Calm Conscience

  • Theme: Children-friendly, with many questions featuring childhood situations. This deck was designed to be the most relatable, bringing up mundane, everyday situations that cause us to examine our scruples.
  • Raederle considers this deck to be appropriate for children six and up, but as always, parents should use their discretion.
  • Type: Base Game

Teen Conscience

  • Theme: Family friendly. Teen Conscience deck is appropriate for children ages ten and up (with parental discretion).
  • Recommended for teen sleepover parties, or groups of adults desiring a lighter game of Conscience. This game may be slightly awkward for conservative parents and their teenagers if they are both sitting at the same game of Conscience, but if you and your teen(s) are brave enough, have at it!
  • Type: Expansion

Polyamory Conscience (Ruby)

  • Theme: Polyamory.
  • Polyamory Conscience is aimed at people who consider themselves polyamorous or at least are questioning being monogamous. However, many monogamous players enjoy exploring these concepts through this game, as many polyamory situations are relatable to everyday relationship situations with loved ones, roommates, and friends.
  • Type: Base Game (Ruby)

Poly Conscience

  • Theme: Polyamory.
  • Just like the Ruby Polyamory deck, this game is about relationships, particularly polyamorous ones.
  • Type: Expansion (Garnet)

Kink Conscience

  • Theme: Kink.
  • Appropriate for kink parties, swinger gatherings, polyamorous potlucks, couples parties, and any adult gathering.
  • Kink Conscience does not assume that the players are polyamorous (as the Ruby deck does) but works well with polyamorous crowds nonetheless. It is recommended that players are at least seventeen.
  • Type: Expansion
  • This deck! Hit the “Buy Now” button to get your copy!

Fiscal Conscience

  • Theme: Business ethics. Appropriate for almost any kind of gathering, and children ages twelve and up (with parental discretion). Fiscal Conscience can be used to interview potential employees.
  • While most people don’t think of money as a juicy topic at first blush, it is actually more taboo than sexuality to discuss finances and financial matters openly. This deck helps create a safe space to have these important explorations.
  • Type: Expansion

Taboo Conscience

  • Theme: Taboo subjects so difficult to tackle that I advise extreme caution when playing with this deck. Please play with all the other decks over a few months before trying this deck, even if you are the most open-minded person you’ve ever met in your life. Also, please only play this deck with friends you trust and not with your parents, children, business associates, or people you have just met.
  • Type: Expansion

Premium Edition Conscience

  • Includes SIX decks: Crystal, Calm, Polyamory (Ruby), Teen, Fiscal and Kink.
  • Includes larger, more detailed manual.
  • Includes a stout medium box to hold the six decks.
  • Saves $40 over buying these six decks individually.

Conscience Games Suggested Play

I recommend starting with the Crystal or Calm base games, depending on your crowd. If young children will be in the group (six to nine years old), or if you will be playing in conservative company (such as friends from church), then start with Calm Conscience. If you’re buying this game for a friend, I recommend buying them a combination of Crystal and Teen decks, or Crystal and Fiscal decks.

While business ethics don’t sound fun, my experience with playing this game all around the United States since 2013 is that most people enjoy the Fiscal deck above all others. This is because it deals with common issues that we all have to face, and yet we rarely discuss. Because an exchange of money represents an exchange of energy, fiscal matters get to the heart of our own boundaries and scruples.

I recommend the Polyamory themed decks if you are polyamorous, poly-curious, or your personal interests are relationship-centric. (For example, if you are a couples therapist, you will enjoy the polyamory-themed decks very much!) You can definitely start with Polyamory Conscience, which is why I offer the ruby deck as a base game.

I do not recommend any groups ever starting with the Kink or Taboo decks which is why these are only offered as expansions. If you are new to Conscience, you may wait on getting these until you have played the game for a while. That said, if you bring Kink Conscience to an adult party where people have never played before, that should be fine, but it is ideal that the host/owner of the game is familiar with what the base game is like when it isn’t themed in this way!

The History of Conscience

The first edition was called Voice of Conscience and was released in 2013. Since then it has been through several revisions and upgrades and now boasts six ways to play and eight decks. I was inspired by A Game of Scruples back when I was a teenager, but Conscience has evolved far beyond those original inspirations.

I originally made this game because I was tired of small talk, but it turned out I wasn’t the only one. As a neurodivergent digital nomad I brought this game all over the United States and people have uninanimously loved it. Even people who I thought were too mainstream to really want to discuss things deeply have given this game high praise.

So what do you have to lose? Give this game a shot and enjoy deeper connections with the people in your life!
